Laufás - Goðafoss

Trip to Laufás and Goðafoss with Coffe stop at Stórutjarnir takes about 4 hours.
Laufás is one of the best preserved turf roofed house in Iceland. The buildings are from 1840 but have been renovated and are now a museum.
The houses are fully furnished and a walk through the museum will give you a good idea of what it was like to live in Iceland at that time. It's small museum but really nice visit, all staff members are wearing traditional costumes and you'll go 150 years back in time by visiting Laufás.
After Laufás we recommend a drive to Goðafoss through the valley Fnjóskadalur. Goðafoss is a waterfall in Skjálfandafljót and is really impressive.

After Goðafoss you can drive back to Akureyri via highway nr. 1. If you want to have a coffe or light meal you shoud stop at Fosshótel Stórutjarnirþ At a farm just beside Stórutjarnir you can find a hidden treasure, Gallery Surtla, where they produce and sell mostly products from sheep wool.
After a stop at Stórutjarnir or/and Gallery Surtla you can head back to Akureyri via road number 1.
Guests pay upon arrival.
